Sexual Assault Counseling

"It's the reconnection to and redefining of one’s self that takes some time to figure out."

Some situations are exceedingly difficult to go through alone. Sexual assault counseling gives you a safe and confidential outlet for your emotions and makes sure you’re receiving high quality care as you heal. Don’t be afraid to reach out, there is always someone willing to offer their hand in return.

How Sexual Assault Counseling Can Help You Heal

After such intense emotions, it can be difficult to find your next step on your own. A therapist can help your work through your feelings, concerns, and health issues to put you back on your feet. Survivors may also experience PTSD symptoms, avoiding potential triggers, having flashbacks or nightmares, and find it difficult to take their mind off of negative thoughts.

It’s okay to not be okay. Through counseling, you can take things one step at a time in a safe environment. A good therapist will work with you to manage your negative thoughts and turn them around.

Step One: Taking Control

A traumatic event can make you feel unsafe, and send your mind reeling. Counseling starts by helping you take back control, making sure you find a safe and trustworthy environment for you to work through your feelings. You’ll learn how to quiet the negative thoughts in your mind, so you can deal with them better at the right time and not let them overwhelm you.

Step Two: Managing Your Feelings

Truly opening up about your experiences isn’t easy. Once you feel safe and ready, a counselor will work through the more intricate emotions connected with your experience. It takes a lot of courage to open up about sexual assault, and it’s a step in the right direction.

Step Three: Reconnecting

Every step of the way, you need to look after yourself. You are valued and worthy of love, and you’re worth all the effort you can give yourself. Be empowered to take full control of your life and your relationships and find meaningful connections between yourself and others.

It’s important to remember that therapy is unique to you. We all heal at different paces and in different ways, but no one needs to go through their journey alone.

Reclaiming Confidence

Sexual assault doesn’t define your self-worth and value. You are in control of your future, and counseling can help restore that power to you. There’s no time too early or too late to seek professional help with moving forward and reclaiming love and confidence.

Trauma can show itself in many ways, and you don’t need to let it hold you back from moving onwards. Both acute and chronic trauma can cause stress, emotional instability, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. It can feel like an awful lot to handle, but you don’t have to be alone.

You changed my life in so many ways. I'm shocked at the positive impact you had on my life in such a short space of time. Sometimes I can't believe it. I appreciate you so much.
It was really difficult for me to connect with any therapist and I had tried therapy a couple of times. When I worked with you it never felt like therapy. You were the only therapist I could connect to and by far the best therapist I ever had.
